To The Bereaved Families Of The Connecticut Shooting Victims : 11 Words Of Comfort

Posted on | December 15, 2012 | 6 Comments

Today is a heartbreaking day not only for the United States but for the whole world as we grieve for the lost lives in the Connecticut shooting rampage. A total of 26 people died including 20 children and 6 adults in the said shooting incident at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

The tragedy stunned the whole world in shock. Many people all over the world expressed their sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families through social media and internet.

I for one was crying while reading the news over the internet. It was recorded as the second-deadliest school shooting case in the history of United States which even made President Barack Obama cry as well.

Lives were taken and now hearts are grieving.

Whenever I grief and feel saddened, I always turn to only one thing – the WORD OF GOD. And here are 11 words of comfort for the bereaved families in the Connecticut shooting massacre.

  • Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
  • Psalm 55:22 Cast your burden on the LORD,  and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.
  • Isaiah 66:13  As one whom his mother comforts,  so I will comfort you;   you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
  • Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness  for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD

  • Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance
  • Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand
  • Revelation 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
  • Psalms 119:50 This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.
  • John 14:1-3 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
  • Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
  • Philippians 4:6-7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

I know that losing a loved one causes unimaginable pain but I hope and pray that may these words bring comfort and peace to your grieving hearts. In this time of difficulty, always remember that there is a God who loves you unconditionally.

    There is nothing that can fill a heart that grieve except the grace of God.

    Lord, have mercy! may Your grace pour on those who have lost in this evil.

      I agree with you dice. May the grace and love of God comfort those weeping families right now.

      As a mother, I can’t imagine the pain and grief I would feel if ever I lose my son.

      Despite all the pain, this can also be seen as a remembrance for us. This incident reminds us to spend each day with no regrets. Hug your children now and tell them you love them. Life is short. Do not waste it hating.

      God bless us all.

    A sad day for humanity.

    A lot has been said about guns and no guns… guns or no guns this is pure evil…

  • dice8up says:

    a beautiful verse is found in revelation that looks forward to the day in the presence of the Lord…

    it says(paraphrasing),

    …there will be no more death, nor sorrows, nor crying. And there will no more pain.
    …God shall wipe away every tears from their eyes…

  • Arvy says:

    Guns or no guns there will still be evil. Evil lurks everywhere and just waiting for its turn to strike.

    God has a purpose for everything. No matter how bad or tragic the situation is, there is still something good in it. We just have to look at things in a brighter way.

  • Arvy says:

    I love that verse as well! I did forgot to include it in but thanks for sharing. That is one of the sweetest verse on the Bible.
